5 ways to find more time in your day as a busy mom (#2 is crucial to success!)

Do you ever feel like you are just running from one task to another and never really getting anything done? Finding more time as a busy mom is HARD! But definitely not impossible.

I am going to be super honest this week ladies, I am TIRED.

The past few weeks have been a blur. Between work, taking care of the kids, and driving both of my parents to doctor appointments a few times a week.

As we’re attempting to go through all the hoops I have kinda been in awe at how our systems we set in place are just working.

It has really taken me back to a time when our lives were similarly crazy when my kids were tinier than they are now.

Back then as a brand new stay at home mom, I dashed from task to task and eventually burnt out completely exhausted. It felt like there just was NOT enough time in my days to do anything.

Now that I have been on a journey of finding systems and schedules that work for us, I know that I actually DID have time. I just had NO idea how to organize it!

So how do you find more time in your day? I’ve got a few ideas for you.

1. This is REALLY important. STOP multitasking!

Do you see how exhausted poor Spongebob looks?! Mama, I am SURE you’ve felt this before.

When you multitask more often than not you end up getting many things halfway done. Not to mention the mental strain it puts on you!

I used to try to work, watch the kids, and keep the house picked up all at the same time. I’ll be quite honest I think I was driving myself a little bit crazy.

Now I stay focused on one task at a time and dear sweet baby Jesus has it helped my sanity. I had to give up trying to do it all at once and it led to me actually getting WAY more done.

Side note: There is a SMART way to multitask! You just have to be careful about it. We don’t have time to dive into that today but I go in-depth in the Busy Mom Block Method!

2. STOP setting yourself up for failure by planning too much in one day.

I see this happen to moms time and time again. You have this drive to get things done and then just as quickly you burn out.

Inevitably you fall back into old habits and no lasting change ever happens.

Mama, I’m alllll about that LASTING change that makes a real difference in your WHOLE life.

I can confidently tell you that you probably have planned so many things in your days that you get overwhelmed and burnt out.

It ends badly for everyone. You’re down on yourself, and you may even get frustrated with your kids or partner because of it.

I only assign myself one big cleaning task a day (when I say big I mean clean one bedroom).

If I get that done I’m totally happy. If I get more done even better.

The expectation that you do it all in one day is insane, and it is NOT sustainable.

3. DO find a flexible schedule that actually works for you.

Notice I said a FLEXIBLE schedule. You don’t need every minute of your day planned! You just need to find a schedule that actually works for your family.

I know some of you feel the same way I used to feel, and a flexible schedule has made ALL the difference. I want you all to get through your days without being completely overwhelmed and actually get things DONE!

When I started using a flexible family schedule I stopped being overwhelmed by what to do and just started DOING things.

There was no wondering what is next or going from one task another and never really getting anything done.

I saved so much time because I knew exactly what I was supposed to be doing and when.

You can see all the things that changed for my family when we started using a schedule right here.

4. DO find small 5-10 minute pockets of time to get more done.

Take advantage of those small-time windows, sometimes you can get more done then than ever before!

The important thing here is to focus on one area at a time and keep going back to it until it is done.

Stop waiting for a solid hour of kid-free time to do things (like that would ever happen)! You can get it done sooner in your day if you just get started.

This is one reason why I love the Magic Timer Method SO much. You literally just use 15 minute time periods and it makes a MAJOR difference in your home.

If you haven’t grabbed your free copy of the Magic Timer Method yet- grab it here!

5. DO have prep days and meal plans so you have a big part of your week done ahead of time.

I know this may sound counter-intuitive if you don’t do these things now.

Why should you add more things to your list?

Because adding these two things can save you SO much time and stress in the week ahead.

You are adding out two tasks and taking away like 15!

Meal prepping for 5-10 minutes and doing around an hour of prep lets stop worrying about what’s for dinner and take control of your nights again.

I hope these tips are a great starting point for you to tackle your busy days mama!
