Creative cheap date night at home ideas (that you’ll both enjoy)

Let’s be honest, going on a date is EXPENSIVE. But these creative date night at home ideas will help you save some money and have a great night with your partner.

A date night can do wonders for a relationship. You follow the same cycle everyday. Work, clean, maybe wrangle a few kids, and repeat.

The stress of every day life can take a major toll on a relationship. Even the best ones!

My posts have affiliate links to products I love, get the boring details about what that means here if you want.

Sometimes a creative date night at home is just what the doctor ordered.

If you want even more of an opportunity to connect with your spouse I LOVE this program by Mom Break. It’s a 30 day reconnecting exercise for both of you!

It’s honestly the best because she makes it super easy and SUPER affordable.

So let’s jump on into these fun date night ideas!

1. Classic Dinner and Movie with a twist

OK this one is a given. But when you haven’t gotten to spend any quality time with your spouse even a simple date like this one can give you that little boost you need.

I’m not going to lie, this one is my favorite. We never get to the real movies, so a cuddly night at home is perfect!

Ways to put a twist on this classic date idea:

  • Write down a bunch of movies you or your spouse may want to see and pick one from a jar.
  • Don’t just have a plain dinner and a movie, make it a theme night! Cook a dinner that goes with the theme of the movie, or something they eat in the movie. PLUS you can even decorate if you really want to.
  • Don’t skimp on the eats, make sure to buy all the popcorn and candy to make it just like the theater.
  • Make your own inside tent and watch the movie from there!
  • Even better, get a projector and watch the movie outside under the stars.
  • Don’t hang in your PJs! Dress up for the occasion.

2. Go camping in your backyard or living room

Being alone in a tent is super cozy and simply unplugging from the world around you can do wonders for your relationship.

Going outdoors and looking at the stars can be totally romantic.

Here are some good basics for a backyard camp out:

  • Tent
  • Flashlight
  • Sleeping bags
  • Blow-up mattress (if sleeping on the ground doesn’t interest you)

Not a fan of the outdoors? You can do the same thing indoors for even cheaper!

I LOVE the idea of a little indoor ‘camp out’ with a DIY tent in your living room.

Basics for an indoor camp out:

  • large blankets
  • comfy pillows
  • twinkle lights (not a need but so romantic)

Plus! Don’t forget the smores! What camp out would be complete without them?!

3. Cook something new

Cooking is something that you both can have a ton of experience in or none and it can still be fun.

Find something new to both of you that might be a little complicated so you all can learn some new skills together.

4. Have a game night

A game night is a perfect way to let off some steam together.

5. Do a craft

Craft’s are usually seen as a woman’s hobby but who says hubby can’t get in on the fun?

Need some ideas? Here are some of my favorites:

6. Take a bubble bath together

This one is pretty self-explanatory but filling up a bubble bath is a great way of relaxing and spending time together if you have a tub big enough 😉

7. Have a spa night

Everyone can appreciate a good spa. So why not do your own at home? You can even do a bubble bath too if you’d like.

Set the mood by burning incense or an oil diffuser, or light candles. Have soothing music or white noise playing and make sure to warm some towels and washcloths ahead of time.

You can even make some infused water to give that spa-like experience.

Here are some things to do:

  • Give each other massages
  • Burn incense, an oil diffuser, or candle
  • Do facemasks together
  • Rosewater bath

8. Destination theme night

Want to feel like your traveling for way less than the price of a plane ticket?

Have a destination theme night! This means your decor, food, and entertainment should all be inspired by the place you’d like to go.

You can even dress up for the occasion!

9. Play video games together

So obviously one of you has to be into video games for this date night to be viable. But I can’t tell you how fun it can be to just sit down and play video games for a while with your spouse.

Have fun as a team! Even if you don’t like them, sometimes it’s fun to do something that your partner enjoys to do. Learn more about their world.

10. Have a nerf gunfight

So this one is just something to bring your inner child out.

Have a nerf gunfight! Make sure you have ammo and guns stashed around the house.

Have fun with your spouse again!

11. Have a tasting night

This can be any kind of tasting you want. Just try something new!

Here are some ideas for a fun tasting night:

  • Wine
  • Chocolate
  • Cheeses
  • Take out dishes from around your area

There you have it! A ton of great ideas to have a date night at home with your spouse.
