Hello Bello Product Review (one frugal eczema mom’s thoughts)

Baby products are something that people can get very opinionated about. Some people swear by Huggies, others hate them. Some people tell you Desitin is where it is at, and the other camp will tell you no, in fact, Bordeaux’s Butt Paste is in fact where it is happening. Today I’m going to give you my Hello Bello review, the good and the bad.

I can say I do land in a pretty opinionated camp on most baby products as well. But money gets in the way sometimes, which is why I can always find the cheapest diaper in town.

Enter Hello Bello. This review of Hello Bello products is completely opinionated and not at all bias. I am a mom who is super critical on baby products.

The really unfortunate thing about baby products is cheap items aren’t the quality that I would like for my kids.

My mission with this site is to help moms have the lives they want with their families without breaking their budget.

Hello Bello’s products fits perfectly with that and I can’t wait to share what I think about them below.

A little history on Hello Bello

If you haven’t heard of Hello Bello yet, it’s a company started by Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard. I pray that you have heard of those two lovely people because they are one of the cutest couples in Hollywood.

Kristen Bell you might know as Anna from Frozen or Veronica Mars, and Dax Shepard is the host of the widely popular Armchair Expert podcast and of course has starred in shows like Parenthood (sob).

The two have been on numerous interviews lately talking about their latest endeavor, Hello Bello. They say the goal of Hello Bello is simple.

To eliminate the choice many parents have to make – deciding between what’s best for their kids and best for their budget. We believe in premium for all because every baby deserves the best.

They are hitting a great need in America’s small towns. If you live somewhere not near a large city, having access to quality baby products is not within your grasp.

Also there is the price factor, many people cannot afford better products for their babies. I’ll be frank, I’d love to buy my kids the nicer diapers, but the budget is just not there.

Hello Bello has partnered exclusively with Walmart to provide access and low cost high quality baby items. It is something that is so far unheard of in the baby industry.

Our battle with baby bath products

My daughter has extreme eczema, we’ve been battling it for over a year now. When I say the word battle, I mean that. Freaking fighting it tooth and nail.

She has food allergies, environmental allergies, and all of these things affect her eczema. Fragrances, shea butter, and many other things in regular bathing products break her out from head to toe.

I can’t tell you the amount of money we have spent on creams, bath products, and more just to have them break her out or not make a difference.

It is crazy expensive to put quality products on your kids these days. Currently, I make her lotion myself. Everything else we’re almost in a constant state of trial and error.

Initial thoughts on Hello Bello products

When I first saw that there was a new line of natural products out that didn’t cost an arm and a leg I immediately went to check the ingredient list.

I almost cried when I realized that my daughter could use several of their products and they included several of the oils we use on her eczema already!

They are made of plant-based premium ingredients, perfect for babies and sensitive skinned kiddos.

The products claim to be free of:

  • Sulfates
  • SLS and SLES
  • Synthetic Fragrance
  • Phthalates
  • Parabens
  • Formaldehyde Donors
  • Common Allergens (gluten, peanut, dairy)
  • MEA, DEA, and TEA

I immediately texted my husband- Dax Sheperd and Kristen Bell came out with a new line of baby products and she can use their BUBBLE BATH AND IT’S ONLY $7!

My daughter loves a bubble bath. But every single one we’ve tried hasn’t worked with her skin. Eventually, we stopped trying because they just cost too much to keep trying new ones constantly.

So off to Walmart we went that night. We ended up with a few different products that I knew we would use. The bubble bath, Shampoo, Wipes, and Diapers for our little man.

Unfortunately, the shea butter in the lotion and diaper cream limited us a bit but that’s not Hello Bello’s fault.

Just a side note for any allergy parents out there, if you don’t know Shea Butter is made from a tree nut. Kids allergic to tree nuts do not always react to it, but my daughter does big time.

The nitty-gritty: Do Hello Bello products work?

The packaging on the products is really cute and feels nice. My husband especially likes the top on the shampoo, in his mind, it is superior to the other shampoo tops that spin to lock.

He’s the one who messes with that most of the time, so you’ll just have to take his word on that one.

The Bubble Bath and Shampoo

Both of these products are $6.98 at Walmart. They smell straight up amazing and they have no artificial fragrances in them. WIN.

The bubble bath is SUPER bubbly. We only had to use a little and my daughter had more than enough bubbles to let her barbies play in.

Coincidentally her Anna doll really enjoyed it ( I know this is an awful joke, cut me some slack.)

There are even bubbles left in the tub still when the water is drained! I will note the instructions were to put 4 capfuls of bubbles into the bath, we use WAY less than that and are perfectly happy.

The shampoo and body wash combo is super gentle and has not been too harsh on my daughter’s skin or my son’s who is 8 months old.

I can’t tell you how joyful it is to hear your daughter playing in the bath and telling us how excited she is to get in whenever it is usually a fight to the death. #imnotcryingyourcrying

The Diapers and Wipes

The diapers are SO soft. Our usual pamper diapers feel rough in comparison.

But I’m going to be really honest the first night my son wore them he leaked through. HOWEVER- he did sleep two hours longer than normal.

I kept trying them over the next week, and have not had that issue since. These diapers really do hold quite a bit in, I’m chalking up our first night to me not putting the diaper on tight enough more than likely.

My son is eight months old now and he likes to constantly roll when you are changing him, which leads to a less than optimal diapering from time to time.

With other diapers like Huggies and Pampers I’ve noticed that when they are left on overnight they always leave some kind of jelly ball residue behind. I’m guessing it’s something to do with what absorbs all the liquid in those diapers and I hate it.

I have not seen anything like that with these diapers, they can get super full and not leave a thing behind.

Moving on to the wipes, I love the ingredients in these. I use them to wipes my daughter’s hands when we are out because most things irritate her skin too much.

They are a little thin compared to other brands of wipes, but so far they have been just as efficient at cleaning up baby bottoms.

Overall I have been really happy with the quality of both of the products and super happy that the ingredients are good for my kiddos.

The cost comparison

So here is the real test, how do these compare price wise to other premium and regular store brands?

Hello Bello Shampoo & Body Wash vs. Other brands

Hello Bello Bubble Bath vs. Other brands

Hello Bello Diapers vs. Other brands

These prices are for the smallest pack of diapers they offer in size one, each company gets cheaper if you buy a box instead!

Hello Bello Wipes vs. Other Brands

These prices are for the multipacks packs that the brands provide.

Hello Bello Diaper Subscription vs. The Honest Co. Diaper Subscription

One of the offerings of Hello Bello is a diaper subscription that put’s itself in direct competition to The Honest Co. diaper subscription. So if you are interested in getting your diapers sent directly to you instead of buying in store here is the breakdown of these two services.

Hello Bello Diaper Subscription

What’s included:

  • 7 packs of diapers (you get to pick the designs)
  • 4 packs of 60 count wipes
  • 1 freebie item with first purchase (under $9)

Cost: $65

Frequency: You can set your own frequency, anywhere from 3 to 5 weeks in between deliveries.

Honest Company Diaper Subscription

What’s included:

  • 7 packs of diapers (you get to pick the designs)
  • 4 packs of 72 count wipes ‘

Cost: $79.95

Frequency: You can set your own frequency, anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks in between deliveries.

What’s the difference?

Overall these two subscriptions are pretty similar. There is a $15 cost difference, it looks like the Honest Co. bundle comes with more wipes, but it doesn’t make up for the $15 discrepancy.

Overall Hello Bello is the more cost-efficient option, plus you get a free item with the first order.

Conclusion

After using many of their products and comparing them with many others I can confidently say Hello Bello is well worth your money.

They are extremely competitively priced to comparable products, with only the lower end baby products beating them out. For families who want a better option for their kids and can afford to spend slightly more than the basic brands it is a killer option.

I can’t wait to try more things from their line.

Only issue I have found is my son leaks through the overnight diapers every night. We might have to size up. Another issue I have come across is they are sold out quite often. Two of my bundle shipments I've had to delay because this issue.

I absolutely love the shampoo. Smells great too.

Yes I have not had a great experience with the overnight diapers! I hadn't tried them yet when I wrote this post. It probably needs some updating!

This product looks amazing, but I've noticed that blowouts are a big problem with most dispers, especially for breast fed babies whose bowle movements are mostly liquid. Do the diapers have a double gusset like Pampers do?

Rachel

Wednesday 5th of February 2020

So I'm not 100% on how they'd compare as far as a double gusset. BUT I will say my boy poops like 4/5 times a day and I think I've only had one up the back experience? He can have some... interesting poops as well.

We have used Honest products on our 18 month old since birth and I am SO THRILLED to have come across this post! I delayed our shipment of Honest and we are headed to Wally World this evening to grab some Hello Bello products. Our super sensitive eczema ridden baby boy needs some relief and so far nothing outside of Mustela Stellatopia wash & balm has worked. Do you have any posts detailing what all you've tried in your eczema journey? I'd love to compare notes!

Hey Taylor! I actually don't have any posts up yet. We've FINALLY found what works for her and it was a long emotional journey. Basically we saw an integrative medicine specialist who helped us heal her gut and supplements and it worked.

Hello Bello is ALL we use in our house now because it has worked so well.

If you want to talk more about the eczema you can email me at rachel@thiscraftyhome.com! We tried so so many things, I know your pain!

Can’t wait to try these! Im gonna order a box I like honest but they are pricey I don’t really care for some of the prints! I’m also considering trying the Abby & Finn subscription and a couple other but I’m not sure prices on those yet I haven’t dug in to look! Your review on this has helped me I definitely gonna try them! I used to pampers on my first 9yrs ago and I loved them but now that I have my son things have changed and they are leaking bad! And I haven’t ordered honest because I just can’t get past the price

I had the SAME feeling about Honest. Super cute but I can't spend that much on diapers! I hope you love them as much as we do Chelse!
